About Haiga

Hi! I have been studying and writing haiku for about 15 years, and over time I transitioned from haiku to haiga, because during my writing practice I started seeing images in connection with the words. A haiga is a single poetic work in which a haiku (a Japanese-inspired poem traditionally of 17 syllables in the Western world) is complemented by an image. The two — poem and image — comprise one whole: they both complement and complete each other.

At some point I became inspired to turn these haiga into a game, in which the player becomes a co-author, a poet themselves, and assembles the poem. In the game, the player only sees the words. Upon completion — after three attempts, even if unsuccessful — the full haiga is revealed.

Ciao! Studio e scrivo haiku da circa 15 anni, e col tempo sono passata dall'haiku all'haiga, perché durante la mia pratica di scrittura ho iniziato a vedere immagini in connessione con le parole. Un haiga è un'opera poetica unica in cui uno haiku (una poesia di ispirazione giapponese, tradizionalmente di 17 sillabe nel mondo occidentale) è abbinato a un'immagine. I due elementi — poesia e immagine — formano un tutto unico: si completano e si integrano a vicenda.

A un certo punto mi è venuta l'idea di trasformare questi haiga in un gioco, in cui il giocatore diventa co-autore, poeta egli stesso, e compone la poesia. Nel gioco, il giocatore vede solo le parole. Al completamento — dopo tre tentativi, anche se non riusciti — l'haiga completo viene rivelato.
